  • Moon landing
  • Civil rights in the United States.
  • Cuban missile crisis in 1962, ordered a blockade of Soviet ships. Instead of bombing. Afterward, both Kennedy and Khrushchev began to soften the relationship between Washington and Moscow.
  • He also proposed a voting-rights bill and federal programs to provide healthcare to the elderly and the poor.

Lyndon B. Johnson 
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965, The murder of voting-rights activists in Philadelphia, Mississippi, gained national attention, along with numerous other acts of violence and terrorism. 
  • Civil Rights Act of 1968, which covers fair housing for minorities.
  • Johnson designed the "Great Society" legislation to expand civil rights, public broadcasting, Medicare, Medicaid, aid to education, the arts, urban and rural development, public services and his "War on Poverty".
  • Revenue sharing, the end of the draft, new anti crime laws, and a broad environmental program.
